Benefits
Your business can be
adjusted to suit your needs, no matter how often they change. |
Moms, dads, students,
retirees--everyone knows it can be hard to find time for yourself when
you're balancing work, household chores, family responsibilities, or
hobbies and other personal commitments. Time can seem even more fleeting
when you spend 40 plus hours working for someone else's goals, not to
mention the lime wasted on the commute (or worse, Sitting in traffic on
the highway).
With so many commitments and last minute responsibilities

that creep into our schedules these days,
doesn't it feel good to be a little selfish occasionally with your time?
Imagine if "Me Time" wasn't an indulgence, but a standard pan of
your day Luckily, the latter can be a reality with home-based business
opportunities. Time is one of the most valued benefits for the estimated
4.8 million people working from home. According to the Bureau of Labor
Statistics, home-based business owners worked an average of 25 hours per
week in 2004. Plus, every hour worked for a business you own is
scheduled around your needs. That means more time for you, your family,
and your personal goals.
Need more money this week? Squeeze in a few more sales by sending

hard to imagine how you ever put in more time for fewer rewards by
working for someone else.

The
World
Is Your
CLASSROOM
Your children will benefit from the life
lessons-both personal and professional-that come with owning a
business.
One of the first questions many people
ask me as their prospective employer is, "What are the fringe
benefits?"
I smile and remember a conversation I had with my father when I was
a child. I was helping him scrub the bathroom in a rental
property we owned and asked him, "Dad, why are we scrubbing the
bathroom? Why don't we hire someone else to do it?"
His answer has simple: "Its your fringe benefit for being my
daughter."
He explained a lesson that stayed with me-and will stay with your
children many years later. "We all have two things we can
invest-time and money By investing this time together today, not
only are we saving the money we would have to pay someone else,
but the time you spend scrubbing the bathroom may actually teach
you to value and take care of what you have. One day, this
rental house will belong to you and your sister, and I want you
to value it."
My dad didn't need to worry. Even over 40 years later. I still
remember scrubbing that bathroom. Even though the rental house
is long gone, the time I spent with my father will never be
forgotten. It not only taught me about taking care of my
property, but it shaped my core values and gave me a lifetime of
loving memories of my father.
Your children may not remember their employers from their first
part-time jobs, but they will always remember working with you.
By investing your time in involving your children in your
business, you teach them your core values and give them the
knowledge of business ownership that most people never
experience.
Too many parents today rush to and from their jobs, sacrificing the
one thing that may matter the most: time with their families.
By sharing your business with your children, you may ignite the
entrepreneurial spirit that shapes the rest of their lives, like
my father did for me. By mentoring them in your business, you
will give them a gift far beyond time and money-it is the gift
of love and faith in their future.
